Week Three Post: Beauty Sleep

Believe it or not, beauty sleep does exist. No a person can't get more attractive everytime they go to bed and then wake up in the morning, but sleep definitely makes a difference when it's compared to a person who has not slept for 48 hours to a person who had their full 9 hours of sleep.

How can lying down and falling asleep contribute to the beauty in the concept of beauty sleep? During the night, sleep causes people to perspire and this allows the skin to smooth out wrinkles. In addition, the circulatory system boosts blood flow to the skin and that is why people have a certain radiance when they have a good night’s sleep opposed to a bad one. Another reason why a person maintains their beauty by sleeping is because no sleep can lead to “puffy, bloodshot eyes, dark under-eye circles and a pale washed-out complexion.” Skin can also look almost almost tinted blue without sleep.

I have noticed that sleep has made a difference in a person’s appearance. During the summer, there was a Relay for Life event that was held at East Leyden’s Dodge Field. This event kept everyone on my team up the whole night, so when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I noticed that my face was pale and unsightly from all the hours I have spent wide awake. After going home at six in the morning and after six hours of sleep, I looked better and my face had a glow.
